Republican Bill to Block Fundings for ICE Secure Docket Card Program

Republican Congressman Troy E. Nehls has introduced a new bill titled “No Taxpayer Funds for Illegal Immigrant Identity Cards Act”. This legislation aims to prevent the Department of Homeland Security from using U.S. taxpayer funds to issue identity cards to undocumented immigrants. A similar version of this bill was presented in the Senate by Senator Josh Hawley.

This summer, under the Biden administration, the DHS is expected to start the ICE Secure Docket Card program, which will distribute photo identity cards to thousands of undocumented immigrants across the country. This program would be directly financed with U.S. taxpayer money. The issuance of these identity cards would allow immigrants to access local, state, and federal government benefits, including housing, healthcare, and transportation.

Furthermore, the proposed legislation would prohibit the use of documents issued in the context of immigration proceedings to establish eligibility for federal public benefits.
